LABORS PLAN TO REBUILD TAFE IN WA

A Shorten Labor Government will modernise Western Australian TAFE facilities so locals are skilled-up and ready for new and expanding industries.

Labors $20.9 million investment in TAFE will mean more opportunities in Western Australia and jobs for Western Australians.

This includes partnering with the McGowan Labor Government to build a $20 million brand new, state-of-the-art TAFE in Armadale. This will mean local students and apprentices can learn the skills they need for growing industries.

This election is a choice between Labors plan for better TAFEs, or bigger tax handouts for the top end of town and cuts to schools and hospitals by the Liberals.

A Shorten Labor Government will deliver:

$10 million towards a new state-of-the-art TAFE for Armadale to expand courses, replace ageing facilities and give locals skills for jobs in growing industries. This will be matched by $10 million from the McGowan Labor Government.
$4.85 million for three new NDIS and Aged Care Training Centres at Joondalup, Mt Lawley and Rockingham with high-tech interactive mannequins so locals are ready for the more than 5,000 new jobs the NDIS will create.
$3 million for the METRONET Rail Training Workshops at Midland TAFE, providing training in engineering, metal fabrication, instrumentation and electro-technology to skill-up locals for the 10,000 jobs being created by METRONET.
$1.5 million for new commercial cookery and patisserie kitchens at
Bentley TAFE as part of Labors plan to make Bentley the main hospitality hub for South Metropolitan TAFE.
$1 million for a new welding simulator at South Metropolitan TAFE Naval Base Campus so students can get specialist skills for the shipbuilding industry and learn to weld safely.
$550,000 for new technology labs at Clarkson TAFE to support students learning the knowledge and skills they need in industry automation.

This investment in new, industry-standard TAFE facilities is an investment in Western Australian jobs.

New equipment and facilities to support shipbuilding, the NDIS and aged care will help address workforce shortages and future skills demand in Western Australia.

Labor will make TAFE the centrepiece of our vocational education system by ensuring at least two thirds of training funding goes to TAFE, scrapping upfront fees for 100,000 TAFE students and investing $200 million in a fund for modernising TAFE campuses.

A Shorten Labor Government and the McGowan Labor Government will work together to prepare Western Australia for the future and ensure there is a high-quality workforce to support the Western Australian economy.

After six years of the Liberals cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready to deliver.

Only a Shorten Labor Government will deliver better TAFEs for Western Australians.
