The Morrison Government has once again shown it takes small businesses for granted, as its changes to the public sector announced today have seen the Small and Family Business removed from the departmental title and subsumed into a new super department.
Small and family businesses are already hurting under this government and the rolling of small business functions into the new mega “Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources” means they will be virtually forgotten.
Only weeks ago the Sensis Business Index November 2019 revealed:
“More than one in four (26%) Australian small and medium businesses (SMBs) think current Federal Government policies are working against them –an increase of 3% from last quarter. This is the first time the Index has seen an upward trend in the number of SMB owners who believe Federal Government policies are working against them.”

The amalgamation of these departments is further confirmation that the Government takes small business for granted, when in fact they should be prioritising their needs.
This Government has an obligation to invest in small business to achieve real outcomes benefiting jobs and the economy. Instead it has taken the focus off them.
Labor will continue to ensure small businesses are not left exposed by this Government failing to manage the economy.
