In 2023, Australians will participate in a referendum aimed at acknowledging First Nations peoples in the Constitution through the establishment of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. The Voice to Parliament is about two things: recognition and listening.
This Voice will function as an independent and representative advisory body for First Nations individuals, enabling them to provide ongoing advice to the Australian Parliament and Government on issues that affect them.
When governments listen to people about issues that affect them, they:
• Make better decisions.
• Get better results.
• Deliver better value for money.
The Voice will give advice on key issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, from better
infant health to improving services in remote areas.
