LABOR COMMITS $1 MILLION FOR NEW COMMUNITY EVENT SPACE IN KENWICK

The Albanese Labor Government has today committed funding to deliver a new multipurpose building for the Tigray Orthodox Church in Kenwick, providing a valuable new community space for Perth’s south-eastern suburbs.

This $1 million election commitment will support the construction of a new state of the art, community event space on the Church’s grounds, along with 130 car parking bays.

Perth’s Tigray Community has grown significantly in recent years and now exceeds what can be supported by the Church’s existing small chapel.

The funding will go towards the construction of a new facility. The facility will include a multipurpose hall space that can be used for large community events and festivals. It will also include an additional basketball court.

The project also includes a sizeable patio and outdoor recreation space, allowing the community to enjoy it year-round, and in all weather conditions.

This election commitment follows Labor’s proud support for other cultural and religious groups in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs that help strengthen multicultural engagement in our community.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Matt Keogh, Federal Member for Burt:

“Once completed, this exciting new multi-use space will become not only a centre point for WA’s growing Tigray diaspora, but also community and sporting events in the south-eastern suburbs.

“I’ve heard from many members in the Tigray community over many years about the need for more space, so I’m incredibly proud to have secured this much needed funding.

“Only a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver the infrastructure our diverse community needs.”
