SHELTERING THE THORNLIE BOWLING CLUB GREENS
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver $1.4 million to build a roof over the greens at the Thornlie Bowling Club, ensuring it can remain sustainable and enjoyable for Perth’s southeastern suburbs year-round.
This election commitment will fund a completely undercover bowling green arena for local team the Thornlie Ravens, who field men’s and women’s sides in in a wide range of Bowls WA competitions.
There are two bowling greens set to be covered, each with 14 playing “rinks”.
Currently, these rinks are open to the elements, meaning social and competitive bowls competitions in Thornlie frequently have to be rescheduled or cancelled due to bad weather.
In summer, the lack of shade also exposes athletes to serious risks associated with extended sun exposure.
This roof will ensure bowls lovers can compete safely out of the heat and allow the community to enjoy the club on a year-round basis, in any weather conditions, day or night.
The Thornlie Bowling Club is one of the largest in the Perth metropolitan area, boasting teams across various skill levels, and hosts frequent social bowls events.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
