COOLABAROO KIDS COLLECT

26 March 2019

MATT KEOGH MP

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR BURT

Today I was proud to present the Coolabaroo Early Education and Child Care Centre a $20,000 grant to upgrade the playground at the centre.

Coollabaroos child care centre does some fantastic work supporting parents with young children in getting back to work ensuring they receive an early childhood education. This project will enhance playtime to not only be more fun but also much safer.

My Burt Stronger Communities grant will contribute towards a shade sail over the centres sandpit along with new fencing, climbing equipment and soft fall areas in their playground.

The work on this project will be undertaken in partnership with Moorditij Maaman, a group which trains and employs men who wish to return to work or are starting work for the first time.

Men from Moorditij Maaman will be mentored through the process and learn new building and labouring skills, preparing them for future work opportunities.

Moorditch Gurlongga Association provides a range of services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Perths South Eastern Suburbs, including the Coolabaroo Early Education and Child Care Centre, housing support and other community services such as Moorditij Maaman.

The child care centre currently has more than 50 staff and volunteers who strive to to encourage education in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, language and community.

The Burt Stronger Communities Program provides grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 for small capital projects that improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy and viability of our community.

Community groups interested in a grant in the future should contact my office.
