MATT KEOGH MP
SHADOW MINISTER FOR DEFENCE INDUSTRY
SHADOW MINISTER FOR WA RESOURCES
SHADOW MINISTER ASSISTING FOR SMALL AND FAMILY BUSINESS
MEMBER FOR BURT
As both the Federal Member for Burt and Shadow Minister for WA Resources I am so happy to welcome the introduction of Australias first nationally recognised qualifications in automation which will provide future workers in the resources sector the knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly STEM based industry.
These new certificate courses will be the first provide education pathways to jobs in the area of autonomous operations.
This certificate II in Autonomous Workplace Operations will be introduced to the South Metropolitan TAFE curriculum and piloted by a group of Rio Tintos iron ore workforce from later this year, it will also be piloted for Year 11 and 12 students in selected high schools across the state including our own Cecil Andrews College.
Over the last few years as a Federal MP, Ive had the opportunity to observe the fantastic work of Cecil Andrews College in my electorate, which is leading the way in STEM education.
They are the only P-TECH school in WA and have had some fantastic success nationally competing in robotics competitions, as well as direct industry engagement at high school level.
Its programs like these that will train the next generation of miners and explorers.
As the Shadow Minister for WA Resources I cant wait to see how these talented students will help shape the future of the mining and other exciting industries and to see innovative training programs lead the nation.
I look forward to working closely with South Metropolitan TAFE, Cecil Andrews and Rio Tinto in this exciting new educational endeavour that will benefit our community.
