MPs roll up sleeves to help those in need

07 August 2018

Today I joined my local WA Labor colleagues, to roll up our sleeves and lend a hand at Foodbank WA to help package food for those doing it tough.

The festive season is a time for joy but for many families it can be a time of hardship and struggle to put food on the table.

The work done by Foodbank during the festive season is incredibly important, helping over 94,000 Western Australians with packaged food every month.

We helped pack over 350 food packs for families doing it tough over this festive season.

Volunteering in our community is fulfilling and it gives us an opportunity to give a little back. Your workplace can help Foodbank WA too by booking a workplace volunteer session at https://www.foodbankwa.org.au/help-us/corporate-volunteering/

Donating $10 can feed up to 20 children who wont be eating this Christmas. To make a donation visit www.foodbankwa.org.au/donate-online/

QUOTES ATRRIBUTABLE TO:

Mr Gregg Hebble, CEO of Foodbank WA: We rely on the support of individual and corporate volunteers throughout the year, so its fantastic to see local politicians giving up their time to help those who are doing it tough, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
Its been a difficult year for many families this year and the demand for food continues to outweigh our supply.

This Christmas we are hoping to raise enough funds to purchase an additional 200,000 meals as food donations alone are not enough.

Mr Chris Tallentire MLA, Member for Thornlie:
Fantastic to be involved with the wonderful people at Foodbank, and to be able to my little bit to support their great work and I hope it brightens Christmas for families doing it tough.

Hon. Matt Swinbourn MLC, Member for East Metropolitan Region:
It was great to do our little bit to help Foodbank feed families over Christmas.
